BIO
Selentia Quintessa Moore
Brandeis University - B.A. Theatre Arts Honors
Selentia Q. Moore was born and reared in Washington D.C. She is a product of the D.C. Public School System. Her single parent mother, the late, Forstina
E. Parson always told her to “give it all you got!” As a result of her mother’s encouragement, faith, a few amazing teachers, most honorably her former drama t
eacher/mentor, Grace Bradford at H.D. Woodson Senior High, Selentia overcame a very challenging life growing up in D.C. public housing. As she matured,
she realized that the absence of her biological father had great impact on her self esteem and many of her choices in life. To overcome many obstacles, she
depended on her faith in God, the commitment of her mentor, who always encouraged her greatly to use her extraordinary gifts and talents that were so
evident to many. Her gift of teaching and freely connecting with others is always evident to whomever she comes in contact. After high school, Selentia’s goal
was to go to college and become a successful entrepreneur who would give back to the communities of the Washington, D.C. area through the arts. At the age
of 23, under the guidance of her mentor, Mrs. Bradford, she was accepted to the prestigious Brandeis University. In 1991, Selentia graduated with Honors in
Theater Arts and received her Bachelors of Fine Arts. She was the only African American Theater Arts graduate from Brandeis that year. Immediately after
graduating, at the age of 28, Selentia was hired as a Values Education Trainer for the DC Public Schools Values Education Department. Her highest honor
was to instruct her former teachers based on a compelling workshop she created: “REAL LIFE” Through the Dramatic Arts. Teachers were required to take her
class for recertification. They were captivated and deeply touched to see their former student enthusiastically and skillfully teaching them. She was also
responsible for designing and implementing classes that enabled and motivated DCPS students to look beyond their personal circumstances and environment
to become productive citizens in a global society. Selentia is known for having great compassion for others as well as the gift of teaching and excellent
management skills. Her ability to discern when others are “going through” and seeing the potential gifts/talents in others has enhanced the lives of many youth
and adults. With her own dynamic and unique way of connecting to large crowds and individuals, she is devoted to helping others seek out their passions and
talents as a source of empowerment. Her unique way of using performing and visual arts as a “therapeutic” means of healing and helping others to reach
higher levels of academic and life skill achievement has been recognized in her exemplary evaluations as a former English/Drama teacher at Randallstown
High School, Baltimore, Maryland, English teacher at Ron Brown Middle School in DC, and Theater Arts teacher at Cedar Grove Elementary School in
Georgia. Selentia also served as Director of Parenting for Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center where she planned/taught parenting classes for adults and pregnant
teens. She developed a dramatic choose abstinence program for DCPS High Schools and presented “Sex Is Not A Game” to nearly 2,000 students. Selentia
is a wife of 26 years to Anthony Moore, the current concert and stage band director at Dekalb School of the Arts in Avondale, Georgia. Mr. Moore is also an
accomplished singer, music composer/arranger.
In 2003, The Moore’s founded Moore Arts Movement Theater Company, Inc. Their organization has served, mentored and instructed thousands of youth,
women and families from Washington, D.C. to Georgia, including northern states. Both were nominated by their students and awarded as, “Teachers Who
Make A Difference.” The Moore’s have 5 children. Their eldest son is a graduate of the prestigious Harvard University, class of 2015. He is currently a
certified, 6th grade social studies teacher in Washington, D.C. Their next son and daughter are notable scholars and performing artist in Wisconsin and New
York at New York University. Finally, the youngest 2 children are scholars and performing artist in high school and elementary.
Strengthening and empowering youth and families of the world, through the performing arts and education is the Moore’s mission.
Yet in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
